Carr Hill’s Dance Academy has been awarded Runner Up at the Wyre and Fylde Dance Competition. This was the first time the academy had performed in the competition which is held at the Blackpool Tower. The academy’s 15 members, who are in Year 11 and Year 13, performed a piece to the competition theme of ‘Diversity’.

The Dance Academy choose to perform a piece called ‘The Tropics’ based on the creatures that inhabit a Rainforest and how they are all very different but co-exist in the same environment.  To create the piece, students researched individual animals and used the information and their characteristics to create the movement content. There were 20 schools who took part in the competition.

Dance Teacher Miss O’Connor said: “We have never competed in this event before so 2nd place for our first entry is a fantastic achievement.  The students were an absolute credit to the school in their performance and in their conduct.”

Carr Hill student Fin was also asked to be the guest performer at the event alongside his ballroom dance partner Kiera. They performed the Viennese Waltz with another World Champion couple.
