A group of Year 8 students have been awarded with certificates having successfully completed the summer ‘Book Bingo’ challenge as part of Carr Hill’s ‘We are Reading’ initiative.

Louisa, Lexi, Amelia and Jess took part in the challenge over the summer holidays which involved completing a bingo card full of reading challenges. In order to complete the challenge students were required to read a book in some or all of the following categories: an adventure story, a book with science, sport, maths or technology, a book by an author you’ve not read before, the first book in a series, a laugh-out-loud book, a book ten or more years old, a friend’s favourite book, a book based on real life events or a biography, a book that is a film or tv programme.

As a reward for completing the challenge the students have been invited to take part in the Festival of Authors event later this year.

Assistant Headteacher Mr Morton said: “Well done to Louisa, Lexi, Amelia and Jess for taking part in the summer reading challenge. The aim of the challenge was to get students to read something a bit different from their usual genres. Although this challenge has now finished I would still encourage all our students to take part even if it’s just trying one or two books from one of the above categories.”
