Each year we invite local primary schools to come to Carr Hill and enjoy some art sessions. This years theme was designing an emoji and students from Newton Blue Coats, Treales and Ribby with Wrea all took part.

Firstly students were asked what they knew about emoji's, before naming some popular ones and then some more challenging icons. They discussed the criteria for an emoji design as the image has to be passed by the national emoji committee, the design needs to be specific, none advertising and one that people will want to use. They had a look at designs that had been passed then it was on to the students to get creative. Initially they drew thier designs onto some paper phone screens to get their ideas going, before using a collage technique to create their new emoji design. Art teacher Mrs Williams said, "We encouraged the students to be as original and creative as possible and they thrououghly enjoyed wearing their creations as masks at the end. All the classes had such amazing talent and creative ideas, it was a pleasure to run the sessions".
