The girls’ team is made up of year 7, 8 and 9 students who have been training with Preston North End Coach Melissa Brown every Friday since September.

The team took on St Wilfrids U14s team and although Carr Hill did not win the players had a great experience and enjoyed their first competitive game.

Year 8 student Harriet has been playing for the team since last year. She said: “The game was so much fun and all the Carr Hill High School players tried hard and played well. Year 7 student Tegan was particularly good and scored a goal for us.”

When asked about continuing to play for the school squad Harriet said: “I’m going to carry on developing my ability at practice and focus on improving my ball skills.”

PE teacher Mr Doughty said: “The girls really enjoyed the occasion and showed fantastic sportsmanship at the end of the game giving St Wilfrid’s three cheers and shaking hands.”

All the girls should be extremely proud of their performance. They gave 100% and most importantly enjoyed the whole experience. This gives us a platform to push on and progress next year with girls’ football at Carr Hill.”
