Staff and students at Carr Hill High School have completed a 60 mile challenge to raise money for Sport Relief.

The fundraiser was kicked off by teachers Mr Barker, Mrs Beckett and Mr Penney who cycled from Kendal to Kirkham, they completed the 50 mile journey, and first leg of the challenge, in three hours.

The staff arrived at the school at 8.30am to meet students from their mentor groups ready to help them to complete the final leg of the challenge, a 12 mile walk taking them on a route which covered Kirkham and the surrounding areas.

The staff and 50 students had regular breaks throughout the 12 mile journey stopping at local primary schoolsKirkham St Michaels, Kirkham and Wesham, Medlar with Wesham, Ribby with Wrea Green Newton Bluecoat and Freckleton Strike Lane.

The second leg of the challenge took the staff and students 5 hours and 45 minutes to complete.

Mr Barker said: “The students were brilliant. All of them made it back to school even if some were walking wounded with aches, pains & blisters. It was a hot day which made things harder but they all worked together, were positive and showed great determination to finish. I am really proud of them.

“I’d like to thank the primary schools for their hospitality as they all provided refreshments and in some cases entertainment.  Big thank you also goes to all the friends and family who supported us and helped to raise £600 for Sport Relief.”

Niall was one of the students to take part in the fundraiser. He said: “I feel so happy to have completed the challenge.  It was hard was especially the sections of the walk that were across fields.”

Fellow students Lucy and Emily said the heat made the challenge harder than they expected. Emily said: “I think the weather made the walk more challenging and it was so warm. Even though we felt really tired it was worth it to know that we have completed the challenge and raised money for charity.”
