If Carr Hill pupils can make it there, they’ll make it anywhere……

During half term 50 Carr Hill students made the trip across the Atlantic Ocean to the city that never sleeps. The pupils took in the sights and sounds of one of the busiest cities in the world visiting the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Wall Street, Times Square and Fifth Avenue, to name but a few.

The trip lasted for four days and, staying just off Central Park, in a YMCA hotel, students truly were in the heart of this vibrant city.

The trip was designed to give students an insight into a different culture and the opportunity to experience and learn about some of the world’s most famous landmarks. Mr Mitchell was one of five teachers to accompany the students on the trip.

Mr Mitchell said: “New York is one of the busiest and most thriving cities in the world. It was fantastic to give our students the opportunity to visit such a diverse and interesting place. There was so much to learn and take in and we had great feedback from students about how much they enjoyed the trip.”

As well as sightseeing, pupils also had the chance to enjoy some traditional American food at famous eateries Bubba Gump Shrimp.Co and Planet Hollywood. Students sampled fried shrimp, classic hamburgers and chocolate brownies.

There was also time to pick up some souvenirs with the most popular choices including snow globes from the Empire State Building, T-shirts from Planet Hollywood and packs of the world famous Hershey bars.

Year 10 student, Amy Croasdale, said it was a trip of a lifetime. Amy said: “The atmosphere was just incredible, like nothing I have ever known before. I would go back right now if I could it was such an amazing experience.

“I really enjoyed seeing all the famous landmarks and learning to navigate around the city with help from the teachers. I felt that it was really beneficial to see a different economy and culture. It certainly helped to expand my horizons.”
