At 8.15am on Friday 7th February year 10 and 11 students gathered in the hall eagerly awaiting their mock exam results.

On arrival students were asked their name and each handed a brown envelope, just as many will be when the GCSE results are released later in the year. Inside the envelops their grades were detailed.

It wasn’t long before the hall was packed with pupils. The room was soon buzzing with excited chatter as some students animatedly talked to each other about their grades whilst others spoke to family and friends on their mobile phones. Some students opened their envelopes in front of friends as others preferred to take a minute alone before re-joining their peers to tell them about their grades. Plenty of teachers were on hand too, offering students their congratulations and encouragement.

Owen, in year 10, sat two mock exams and was delighted to receive two As, one in History and one in Chemistry. Owen said: “I have worked really hard to get these grades so to see them in front of me in black and white is fantastic.”

Year 11 friends Erin and Rosa, gained an impressive 22 A*-C grades between them. Erin said: “I was not expecting these grades at all. I’ve been really nervous about today and now I feel so happy about the grades I have achieved.”

There were lots of shocks and surprises amongst the students too with many feeling that they might not have done that well, but their grades certainly told a different story.

Year 11 student Sophie achieved 11 A*-C passes including an A* in Chemistry and in RE. She said: “I think my parents will be pleased but shocked. The results have made me feel better about what to expect when sitting my GCSEs later this year but have also spurred me on to do even better.”

Ishwar, in year 10, was delighted to gain an A* in History. He said: “I’m over the moon, all the work was definitely worth it and I’m going to try really hard to ensure I continue to get good grades.”

Head teacher Mr Earnshaw said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to the year 10 and year 11 students. There have been some fantastic achievements and much to be proud of.  My staff and I will now continue to work with our students to ensure they are as prepared as they can be for the summer exams.”
