Pupils at Carr Hill’s ICT Club have been learning about coding systems with the help of their very own robot built by teacher Mr Banks.

Students have been using a system called Python to give the robot the instructions needed to enable it to move and pick up objects such as phones and pens. The idea of the activity is to help pupils learn more about computer science and technology in an engaging way.

Year 8 and ICT Club member, Nathan, is one of 20 pupils to attend the extracurricular activity. He said: “The robot is really impressive. I have enjoyed being able to control it from my computer. I would love to be able to create my own robot.”

ICT teacher Mr Banks created the robot for the ICT Club as a trial. He said: “We are considering introducing the robot into the curriculum next year. We thought the ITC Club would be a great place to test how well it works as a learning tool and the response from students has been fantastic. It has generated a lot of interest as it gives pupils the chance to see how computer science works live.”
