Talented students have been working hard outside of school to pursue their dreams.

At Carr Hill we like to celebrate the successes of our students and encourage them to do well in school and out of school. Five students in Poseidon have been celebrating this week for a variety of different reasons.

Year 7 student Daniel Moss is a keen footballer and through his hard work has just signed a two year contract with Burnley FC academy and will be training from August with the club. He has just finished his third season with the academy and really enjoys training there.

He said: “I work really hard and training three times a week takes a lot of commitment but I feel that it is worth it because I’ve made some great friends and my football ability has improved – I really hope it will continue in the future.

Performers, Megan Eccles, Harriett Parsonage and Liam Ellis all enjoy dance but they are all specialists in different types.

Year 9 student, Liam Ellis is passionate about breakdance and in the past has danced with Britain’s Got Talent stars, George Sampson and Diversity. Liam enjoys his hobby and dedicates a lot of his time to practicing.

He said: “It takes time, dedication and a lot of imagination but I enjoy dancing and wish to pursue my passion for many more years. I often enter streetdance competitions but the biggest so far is Britain’s Got Talent 2014 so I’m really looking forward to auditioning for that.”

Friends Megan and Harriett both enjoy a range of dancing including: Ballroom, Latin American, Freestyle and Streetdance. They both feel that going to dance lessons since being young has helped them to shape great friendships and has helped to build their self-esteem. Their hobby has also opened up career paths for the future in dance and performance.

The art of being flexible is the key to Hannah Ramsbottom’s hobby as she enjoys Gymnastics. Competing nationally throughout the year, Hannah trains 21 hours a week as well as balancing all her school work. She says that her role model is Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle.

Hannah said: “I really enjoy taking part in competitions and in the most recent one I received three golds, one silver and bronze competing for Blackpool.”
