Last Wednesday was Year 11’s final day in school, which concluded with a day-long celebration of their 5 year journey with Carr Hill. This started with a Leavers’ Assembly, including an Awards Ceremony, and video of memories. We then took a full year group photo, followed by Leavers’ Breakfast and shirt signing.
Year 11 joined Mr Waller, and Head of Year Miss Clancy, along with mentor staff members in the hall for their final assembly. Mr Waller started things off, with a message of ‘be kind to others’, and an extra special well done to this year group, who have been extremely well behaved throughout the exam period. Miss Clancy gave a few words of wisdom, including how much she will miss the students, and all the best for the future.
It was then the turn of our Senior Students/Head Girls, Alyssa and Sophie, with their Awards Ceremony. They had sent out a questionnaire before the students had left school, asking for votes on a range of categories of what Year 11 would be most likely to do in the future or what they are most likely to be (even if they won’t admit it). The categories included (to name a few) –
- Most likely to become Prime Minister
- Most likely to become a Celebrity
- Most likely to end up on Broadway
- Most likely to cure Cancer
- Most likely to marry a famous person
- Most likely to become a crazy cat person
- Most likely to be a secret Taylor Swift fan!
The Runners Up and Winners all received a handmade personalised crown to wear, with a certificate to honour their achievement. There was such joy and congratulation from the other students as they whooped and cheered for those collecting their awards. The final category was ‘Most likely to get married’ and 5 couples were nominated for the award, the Runners Up were Brooke and Declan, and the winners were Kate and Tyler.
The students then enjoyed a video of some photos from Primary school visits, dance groups, Tower Wood and This Girl Can. These memories caused much laughter on occasion, and some gasps of shock and surprise, as the students remembered. Some of the teachers had also sent over memories and messages of Good Luck, as well as some members of staff that have had a lot to do with this year group over the years and wanted to say how special they had been. There was a really lovely atmosphere in school as the students shared their memories and could relax after their efforts of revision and exams.
We then gathered together on the yard for a full year group photo, a memento of which will be provided on Results Day.
The students were then welcomed into the canteen, where they shared something to eat and drink with their fellow students for the final time in school. This time together gave students the chance to sign each others shirts, writing messages of good luck or memories to remember their journey together. Teachers from a range of subjects were on hand to sign shirts with messages of support and best wishes. Some of the shirts were beautifully embellished and will be treasured keepsakes. Please enjoy the photos below, which show some of the amazing shirt artwork created by our students.
Prom
In the evening, the Prom took place at The Villa in Wrea Green. The event gave students chance to celebrate in style, everyone looked amazing in their chosen outfits and arrived in a wide range of vehicles, including vintage cars, a motorbike, on horse-back, and in a cement wagon! Much excitement was felt when a mini row of footballers lined up to welcome the England Manager, Gareth Southgate, to the Prom. Charlie certainly caused quite a stir! A TVR and a McLaren made an appearance, with Aston Martin’s, Ferrari’s and other extremely impressive sports cars . Emily even arrived in a Combine Harvester! Brandon certainly arrived in style, in a beautiful red Mustang, the only one in this country.
Once everyone had arrived it was time to relax and take photos before a three-course meal, which was delicious. Then it was time for the party to start, with the DJ taking requests all night and the dance floor packed. Students rushed to the dance floor to join in with ‘Timber’ and Mrs Morrison exclaimed that it was just like one of her Dance classes!
We wish every member of the ‘Class of 24’ all the very best for the future and thank you to all the Year 11 students who put their all into school life. The Carr Hill community wishes you all the best and keep in touch! We look forward to seeing you all on Results Day in August.
