Curriculum Intent Overview
At Carr Hill High School, our Photography curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and highly creative, enabling students to develop both technical skill and artistic vision. Students explore photography through a range of approaches including digital photography, experimental techniques, physical manipulation, mixed media and installation work, allowing them to investigate and refine their own creative style. A strong focus is placed on developing highly skilled Photoshop techniques, ensuring students can confidently edit and enhance their work to a professional standard.
Students are given the opportunity to explore portraiture, still life, outdoor photography and studio-based work, developing their understanding of composition, lighting and camera techniques. Access to our photography studio allows students to experiment with technical lighting and professional equipment, building confidence and independence in their practice. Photography is a highly popular subject at Key Stage 4, and we are proud to be in the top 5% nationally for outcomes, with our provision recognised for its experimental approach, inclusivity and encouragement of independent thinking and risk-taking.
