LCC Youth Zone Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is an excellent way to combine on the job learning while you’re working and earning a wage. You’ll get hands on practical learning through your employer and you’ll also go into college or to your training provider one day a week to learn the theory behind your chosen subject area. Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of subjects and they last for at least 12 months. You can start at Level 2 and progress all the way up to Level 7.
As an apprentice, you’ll be an employee and will receive a wage and other employee rights, such as holiday pay.
Apprentices receive different rates of pay, depending on their age and where they are up to in their apprenticeships. A 16-18 year old apprentice is entitled to the National Minimum Wage.

Apprenticeship Opportunities at Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz are currently recruiting for apprentices across a variety of roles, in their nationwide network of retailers and dealers. They have vacancies for Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle Technicians, Customer Service Experts and Retail Parts Advisors. Any students who may be interested in doing an apprenticeship, please visit the website Mercedes-Benz Training. Using your home postcode, you can search for vacancies in the local area and make an application. The vacancies are constantly changing, with new positions being added regularly, so if you are unable to find something in your local area initially, check regularly as new positions may become available.
Apprenticeships are open to students who are 16 and over (they must be 16 to start the programme in September, so can apply whilst they are 15), and ideally students would have a grade 4 or above in English and Maths at GCSE. However, Mercedes-Benz do offer functional skills where these grades have not been achieved. Further information can be found on their website, as well as some hints and tips about writing an application.

Kirkham Grammar School Sixth Form
The format of the traditional open day is certainly useful, but it is a prepared, showcase event and we think that if you are investing heart, soul and mind – as well as financially – in an independent school then you need to see it operating. A private tour with the head, where you are going into lessons and interacting with pupils and teachers, and seeing the school up and running is probably therefore an ideal open day experience.
