Curriculum Intent Overview

At Carr Hill High School, our Music curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and creative, designed to develop confident, skilled and expressive musicians. Students explore a wide range of musical styles from traditional to contemporary, developing an understanding of the key elements of music including rhythm, pitch, tempo, structure and dynamics. Through performing, composing and listening, students learn how music is created, developed and communicated.

At Key Stage 3, students build a strong foundation through practical music-making, using instruments such as keyboard, guitar and digital music software to perform and compose in a variety of styles. They explore genres including reggae, pop, EDM, blues and rock, while developing their understanding of music in its cultural and historical context. At Key Stage 4, students can continue their learning through BTEC Music, a practical and creative qualification that equips learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to progress into further education and careers within the creative industries.
