Congratulations

To our National Poetry Day winners - Alicia (Year 10) and Maiden (Year 7)

This year's theme was 'Truth' and students in English and Religious Studies wrote summaries and poems about what the theme means to them.  Thank you to everyone who entered!  Well done to Alicia and Maiden on their winning work and they will receive vouchers.

Winner - 'Forever isn't always' by Alicia (Year 10)

The unspoken words you want to hear,

Never the truth as it’s something we fear,

A lie helps to get rid of the blame,

But the truth confronts us with the pain,

You need to be honest if you want to move past,

To accept it yourself finally at last,

Even if you need guidance or help along the way,

At least you won’t be in denial every day,

Not to be weighed down but to look through,

Don’t be a burden to what you know,

Accept, move on and let go.

Runner Up - 'Truth' by Maiden (Year 7)

Truth is something that is hidden deep inside of everyone but for some people it is really hard to find. People must know that the truth may hurt for a little while but a lie will hurt forever. If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything. The truth is hard to hear and it is up to you to decide whether to use it. The truth will never pick sides.

On National Poetry Day, we had a lunchtime activity in the HUB and students wrote down lines about truth on post-it notes.  These have been collated into a found poem.

Truth - Found Poem

Is this true?

This state of being,

Of being true.

Without truth, nothing is possible.

Truth is our way in life – our path.

The world is full of truth like an ocean of flowing sea,

Waves lap against waves of mesmerising blue.

Calm and quiet, it ebbs and flows

Yet can crash and dash us for the truth can hurt.

But ... it doesn’t lie.

Lies are masks of doubt and fear.

Lies boil un-forgiven forever.

Truth can be hard to listen to

Yet will always be heard.

For the truth will find its way out –

It cannot hide.

Truth is trust, hope, honesty, respect –

A precious, priceless jewel.

Don’t be afraid -

Stand up, believe, be free.

Speak your truth.

The truth is out there – find it …

In yourself!
