Meet the Governors

Meet the Governors

Karen Birch

Staff Governor

I was elected as a Staff Governor to the Governing Body in June 2014. I have worked for Lancashire County Council for the past seventeen years, both in a Primary school and for the last seven years, as the Pastoral Care Leader for Apollo and Mercury Colleges at Carr Hill. In school I take an active interest in staff well-being. I am currently leading a working group to promote the Health, Safety and Well-being of all our staff. I have been married for twenty nine years and have three children. In my leisure time I enjoy music, film and traveling with my family. As a Governor, I continue to look forward to supporting everyone in our school and community to achieve the best outcomes for us all.

Emma Butterworth

Staff Governor

I have been a teacher of Geography at Carr Hill for the last 6 years since qualifying as a teacher. Prior to this I worked as a manager within the recruitment sector helping young people secure employment and was chairperson of a local charity.

Jennifer Cartwright

Governor

After completing my education, I trained as a nurse and later as a midwife and took up a post at Lytham Hospital on the maternity ward. After a break in service after the birth of my second child, I became a community midwife which was one of my ambitions, and was based in Kirkham and later Thornton. I obtained my degree from the University of Central Lancashire, then became a Supervisor of Midwives. I was also a Representative of the Royal College of Midwives, attending national conferences across the country. After my retirement I was offered the opportunity to join the Board of Governors at Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre which has been an honour in such a successful and happy school. My family also keep me occupied, I have two children and six grand children, ranging in age from nineteen to two and am often in demand as a baby sitter to my daughter's two little ones who live in Somerset near Bristol. I enjoy travelling and I also spend a lot of time in Mallorca where I love the climate and life style.

Rev. Sylvester Deigh

Governor

Rachel Leaper

Governor

I have been a parent governor since November 2014 and I am vice chair of Pupils, Curriculum and Standards Committee and Link Governor for Most Able Students. I have been married for 20 years and have 2 daughters who are currently in year 11 and 8. As a past Carr Hill student I feel proud to be sending my own children to this school. I have been a primary teacher for 22 years and most of my career has been spent at Freckleton Church of England School.

Ian Marquis

Chair of Governors

My involvement with Carr Hill stems back some 47 years. Firstly as a pupil, then as a parent of 3 daughters who attended the school and more recently, as a member of the Governing Body. I joined the Governors 10 years ago, and was appointed Chair of Governors in 2009. As Governors we are committed to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to reach their full potential whilst providing them with the necessary life skills to develop into well rounded individuals.

Paul Mather

Governor

I wanted to be a Governor to enable me to serve the community and give our students the best start in the transition from adolescence to adulthood. As a Co-opted Governor I hope to bring my experience of service in the Royal Air Force and the engineering industry to the school. I serve on the Resources Committee and I am also the link Governor for Science.

Sara Moreton

Governor

My name is Sara Moreton and I am an elected Parent Governor. I live in Freckleton and attended Carr Hill myself as a child. I am married with one son who is currently in Year 7. I have 23 years experience in education, the last 7 as the Headteacher of a small primary school. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog, reading, listening to music, spending time with my family and going on holiday abroad, Florida being a particular favourite destination! I am looking forward to my role as parent governor by playing an active part on the Governing Body to help support the Headteacher and staff to continue to improve the education for all. I want to help ensure that all children achieve their full potential which will stand them in good stead to enter the next stage of their life whatever that may be.

Linda Nulty

Governor

I became a Governor at Carr Hill 32 years ago, starting as a Parent Governor, then continuing as a Community Governor. I served as Chairman of Governors for 7 years and I am currently Vice Chair, as well as being Chairman of Pupils, Curriculum and Standards. My 3 children attended the School, followed by 2 of my Grandchildren, one of which is currently in year 8. I am a local Councillor, being a Town Councillor for Medlar with Wesham and Fylde Borough Councillor for the same ward. I am also involved in many community activities in the area. I am always concerned that Carr Hill High School delivers the best opportunities possible for all our young people and work to that aim.

Councillor Mr Paul Rigby

Governor

I have been married for 41 years and have a daughter, a son and 2 grandchildren. I have lived and farmed in the Fylde all my life. Having always been community minded, I have served on Fylde Borough Council for 24 years, was Mayor of the Borough in 2009/10 municipal year and also served on Bryning with Warton Parish Council for 28 years. I represented the Borough Council on the board at New Fylde Housing, Chairing them through their transition as a Social Rented Landlord from being Council led. In 2009 I was elected as a County Councillor, and joined the Governing body of Carr Hill shortly after. I have also served as a Governor at St Paul’s School in Warton for 20 years and Chaired or been a member of various other committees surrounding village life.

Amanda Sullivan

Governor

I was appointed Parent Governor in November 2016, and have a daughter in Year 10. I have been a Registered Nurse (Mental Health) for 11 years, mainly in and around the Fylde Coast area. I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Mental Health Practice at the University of Central Lancashire, and am currently studying towards a Masters degree. Education, mental health and equality are high on my agenda as a parent and professional. In my spare time I enjoy going to the cinema, travelling and volunteering with local animal charities.

Guy Tugman

Governor

Born in Lancaster and brought up in Lancashire, I graduated from Stirling University with a degree in Economics and later completed a Postgraduate course in Statistics. I became a Carr Hill Governor in Autumn 2015 after being a Parent Governor at Strike Lane school for four years where I was Chair of the Finance and Staffing Committee. At Carr Hill I sit on the Pupil, Curriculum and Standards Committee and am the Maths Link Governor which involves observing lessons and discussing student progress with the Director of Learning. I am also a Data Governor responsible for reviewing student assessment data across all age groups. I’m passionate about learning and in my spare time I mentor a student at Blackpool Sixth Form College. I live in Freckleton and have a daughter at Carr Hill and a son at Strike Lane. I work in Blackpool and spend a lot of my time watching my son play rugby, cricket and football and essentially acting as an unpaid taxi service!

Andrew Waller

Headteacher/ Staff Governor

I qualified as teacher of History and Religious Studies in 1991 and spent many years teaching in Bolton with four years as Subject Leader for Religious Studies and a further six as Head of Sixth Form where I developed a project for Sixth Form students to spend a month in Tanzania in the summer holidays teaching in local schools or working in the clinic just outside the town of Moshi. In 2011 I moved to Cardinal Langley RC High School in Middleton where I was Deputy Head responsible for pastoral care, behaviour and safeguarding. In June 2014 I was delighted to be appointed as Headteacher of Carr Hill, taking up post in January 2015. Originally from Bolton I now live near Wigan and so am now very used to the M6 and M55. I knew very little about this area apart from the childhood holidays in Blackpool but have made a real effort to get to know the locality and visit all the local primary schools. I very much want the school to be a real part of the local community. Outside of school I very much enjoy travelling, cooking and the cinema along with a current ambition to do a 10k run. I am also a foundation governor at Savio High – a Catholic Secondary school in Bootle, Merseyside.

Mandy Williams

I have been a Governor at Carr Hill High School since 2010. I have two children who attended the school and later the sixth form. They are now studying mathematics and biology at university. Although originally a parent governor, I am currently a co-opted governor. I am a qualified social worker and have worked in a variety of children's social care settings. I am the link governor for disadvantaged students.

School Governors

The Board Of Governors consists of 15 members who are divided into 2 main sub committees – Students, Curriculum and progress Committee and the Resources Committee. The Full Governors and each of these committees meets once per term. There are a number of smaller committees which meet as required for Appraisal & pay, Pupil Discipline, Grievance and Disciplinary matters.
